The only reason to add oil to your pasta water
Adding oil to your pasta water helps prevent foaming. That is the only reason one might want to add water to your pasta water. Adding oil to your pasta water prevents the sauce from adhering to the noodles effectively. Frankly, if you use a larger pot foaming can be avoided as well.

i think you put oil in the pot so the pasta doesn't clump together, not to prevent foaming :)
ReplyDeleteWhile many people add oil to the pasta to prevent clumping as well, it is completely unnecessary. Stirring your pasta will prevent clumping as well.
ReplyDeleteits not unnecessary if you are a lazy bastard like i am - why would you want to stir when a little olive oil would do the job quite nicely?
